What Freelancing Truly Is?

When people hear “freelancing,” they immediately think of someone working from home, sipping on an overpriced iced coffee, wearing pambahay, and posting #WorkAnywhere on Instagram.

But freelancing? It’s so much more than that.

  1. What Is Freelancing — Like, Really?

Freelancing means offering your skills or services to clients — usually on a project or contract basis.

You work with clients. You pick the projects. You set your rates. You choose when (and where) you want to work.

Sounds empowering? It is. But it's also a little scary when you’re just starting out — and that’s totally normal.

  2. Freelancer vs. Employee: What’s the Difference?

This part confuses a lot of people, so let’s break it down:

Freelancers have more freedom, but also more responsibility. You're in charge of finding clients, setting deadlines, delivering results, and handling your own admin work.

No HR department. No manager to follow up. Just you, your client, and your skills.

3. The Reality of Starting Out

Freelancing isn’t always glamorous when you’re just getting started.

  • You might send 10 applications and only get 1 reply.

  • You might say yes to a super low-paying gig just because you don’t know how to price yourself yet.

  • You might work on small tasks just to get your first testimonial.

It can feel slow, awkward, and a little discouraging. And that’s totally normal.

We’ve all been there.

Every freelancer you look up to? They started with zero clients, zero confidence, and zero clue what they were doing.

You don’t need to be perfect — you just need to start.

Because every time you put yourself out there, you’re learning. Growing. Getting better.

And one day, you’ll look back and say, “Damn, I really did that.

4. Why Freelancing Is Worth It?

People turn to freelancing for all sorts of reasons:

  • More time with family

  • Freedom to travel or work remotely

  • To finally escape the toxic office life

  • To earn extra income while doing something they actually enjoy

Or just to feel free. Whatever your reason — freelancing gives you options.

It’s not always easy, but it’s yours. And there’s nothing more powerful than owning your time.

✨ Freelancing isn’t some perfect little path with a step-by-step manual. It’s messy. It’s exciting. It’s scary.

You’ll question yourself. You’ll mess up. You’ll land a client, lose a client, undercharge, overthink — and still come out stronger.

But if there’s one thing I want you to take from this, it’s this: “You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin.”

Start small. Be brave. Show up anyway.

Because every freelancer you admire was once exactly where you are right now — just starting, unsure, and curious.

And if you’re ready to dive into freelancing for real — I’ve got a free course on YouTube. No catch.

Just me showing you what I’ve learned (the hard way) so you don’t have to. 💗

Let’s grow, learn, and figure this out together. 💗
